Slavna Martinovic was born in Belgrade, Yugoslavia in 1977. As a child she moved to Hong Kong where grew up and completed high school. Slavna studied at the London College of Fashion and after she graduated in 1997 she returned to Hong Kong where she started her freelance career as a stylist and make up artist. She moved in 1999 to Los Angeles where she worked as stylist, make up artist and costume designer in music and film industry, with stars like Chloe Sevigny, Famke Janssen, Dougray Scott, Daniela Amavia, Tory Spelling, Pink, Usher, Aerosmith, A perfect circle, Deadsy, Orgy, Travis and others. She also through her career collaborated with many fashion magazines W, Harpers Bazaar, Flaunt, Contents, Cosmopolitan, US weekly, Marie Claire, Soma...
She designed costumes for many featured films like “Baby doll forever”, “The woman every men wants”, “Connecting dots”, “Big top winkle”, “Awakening from dead”, “Seven and a half” as well as theatre plays “The Graduate”, “God of Carnage” to name a few.
In 2001, she was nominated for "Best make up in a music video" by the MVPA in Los Angeles. She was awarded "Zlatna Mimoza" for "Best costume" in a movie "Seven and a half" at the Film festival in Herceg Novi.
In 2007 she started her fashion line creating limited edition hand crafted and finished luxury garments, accessories and jewelry .Her first collection "Vintage Melancholy" was shown in Belgrade, and featured in local editions of L'Officiel, Elle, Gala, Joy, Faar, Grazia...
Drawing her inspiration from her Eastern European roots and mixing it with old Hollywood glamour and a twist of Hong Kong eclectics Slavna's label is in one word very cool and authentically luxurious. These alluring delicate garments made out of new and vintage hand crochet pieces can take up to 300 hours of dedicated handwork to complete.
The collection “Brave new luxury” for spring summer 2009 was shown at the Berlin Fashion Week in June 2008. Her pieces were in featured on Vogue online, Vanity Fair online, Bunte, Another Magazine online, Teen Vogue and many other online and printed publications. The “Brave new luxury” collection was also a book BACKSTAGE FASHION WEEK BERLIN by teNeues publishing.
The autumn winter collection 2009/10 Hello Tiger! was exhibited along the side of the paintings of Simonida Rajcevic at the Arte Reale Gallery in Milan in December 2008.
In a collection “This side of paradise” for spring summer 2010 Slavna showed a mix of timeless hand crochet and silk pieces with delicate embroidery accessorized to the max with rock chic hand made jewelry with vintage crystals.
Her autumn winter collection “How moon floats through her” for autumn winter 2010/11 offers luxury above warmth! In this capsule collection of delicate hand crochet capes and tops where each piece is unique and gently sprinkled with tiny crystals and glass beads.
The collection was adorned with wonderful orchid jewelry pieces made from vintage crystals.
Her last ss2011collection “pillow book” is a dreamy melancholic gem. Finely crafted in luxurious Italian silk, each dress is hand finished and adorned with beautiful point lace appliqué. The lace peaces can take up to 30 hours of detailed work by hand. The collection is wrapped in gentile soft capes hand crochet and painted in pink, gray and black…
Slavna Martinovic creates non-seasonal limited edition hand crafted and finished garments and jewelry that appeals to true connoisseurs of style.
She continues to designs costumes for film and theatre. She collaborates with the contemporary dance troop Club Guy and Ronni. She has designed several pieces with them: “60 Years” that premiered in January 2009 at the Schaushpiel House in Cologne, as well as “ Pinball and Grace”, “Four walls” and “Alpha boys”. Currently she is designing a piece called “Airways” for the Club.
In 2009 she has completed her Masters degree in Multimedia Arts at the Faculty of Fine Arts in Belgrade.
She lives between Frankfurt and Belgrade and Los Angeles.
